Government

Government lets you pick one doctrine in each unlocked tier. Every doctrine is a permanent bonus for your whole empire, and it also adds one point to its category (Civilian, Economy or Military); enough points in one category earn an extra bonus. The header counts your active bonuses, and Current bonuses lists them.

Unlocking tiers. Each tier opens with research; its card shows every requirement with your current level:

Unlocking tier 6 earns the achievement I Am the Senate.

Doctrines (default values):

  • Government System: Confederation +25% transport speed; Oligarchy +12% G.E.L.D. production; Republic +2% resource production; Military State -20% build time for combat ships.
  • Computing & Engineering: Core Terminus +15% interstellar speed (colony ships included); Conservation -5% energy consumption; Skunkworks -10% fleet fuel consumption; Tactical Integration makes civil ships (unarmed transport and extractor designs) deal four times their damage.
  • Doctrine: Utilitarianism +4% energy output; Expansionism +1 colony slot, which also counts as one extra Science Network level for the research access check; Efficientism (+4 Matter Compression) and Militarism (+1 Chassis Integrity and Weapon Research) count as extra research levels when Assembly decides which components you may fit.
  • Cybernetics: Singularity -8% research cost; Neural Nexus +25% fleet command slots (rounded up); Omniscience raises the base success chance of your spy probes from 50% to 95%; Cyber Ascendancy -20% drone cost.
  • Transdisciplinary Science: Stacking Protocol counts as 2 extra Engine Engineering levels for the engine types in Command; Resonance Barrier adds 10% to the minimum and maximum shield regeneration with a working Shield Emitter, never above 50% per round. Arcanum Protocol and Resource Mapping have no effect yet.
  • Ascendance (tier 6): its three options have no effect yet; like every doctrine they still add a category point.

Category bonuses. Each tier offers an option of every category, and the page shows six segments per category:

  • Civilian: 3 points +4%, 6 points +10% ship speed (drones excluded)
  • Economy: 3 points +2%, 6 points +5% resource production
  • Military: 3 points +1%, 6 points +3% attack, shields and hull

Six points in one category mean picking that category in all six tiers.

Changing a doctrine. Select options and press Update. Each tier has its own 30-day cooldown, and your first pick in a tier starts it too; the tier header shows the last change and the days it stays locked. A choice can be replaced but never cleared. New bonuses apply at once, and production on all your planets is recalculated. A chosen doctrine stays active even if your research later falls below the tier's requirements.

Tips. Decide before you click: a wrong first pick is locked for a month. Oligarchy pays for probes and commanders early, Republic helps every mine, and once tier 3 is open Expansionism is an extra colony slot without more Government Network research.
