Alliance Diplomacy

Alliances can go to war with each other or bind themselves with pacts. A war opens the members of both alliances to each other's attacks; a pact keeps them apart, and an alliance pact also lets their fleets defend each other's planets. Diplomacy is conducted on the Diplomacy page of your alliance, which you open from the alliance page.

Who conducts diplomacy

Only the alliance leader and members with the officer rank can declare war, propose a pact or answer one. Every other member can read the Diplomacy page and receives an inbox message at every step: a declaration, the start of a war, a peace offer, the end of a war, a proposed, accepted, declined, cancelled or ended pact.

Two alliances can have only one open relation at a time: one war, one pact or one pending proposal. To go to war with an alliance you have a pact with, cancel the pact first and wait until it has ended. To sign a pact with an alliance you are at war with, make peace first.

Wars

Declaring war

On the Diplomacy page, enter the other alliance's tag or name, choose War and give a reason (required, up to 200 characters; offensive words are refused). With a slider you also set the war's loot share, from 50% to 100%: the share of each resource a raid between the two alliances may take. 50% is the normal loot share of any raid; 100% is an all-out war. The declaration is sent at once to both alliances.

A declared war cannot be refused. It starts when the other side accepts it, or automatically 24 hours after the declaration, whichever comes first. Until it starts, the declaring alliance can still withdraw it.

At war

While a war is active, between the members of the two alliances:

  • Weak-target protection does not apply. Members can attack each other whatever their points. Vacation mode, miner mode and the other attack rules still protect.
  • Raids take the war's loot share. Every raid between the two alliances may take the share chosen in the declaration (50% to 100% of each resource, still limited by the Resource Bunker reserve and cargo), and the reduction for repeated raids does not apply between enemies.
  • Enemies are marked. In Galaxy, a flame icon marks the planets of players whose alliance is at war with yours.
  • The war is tallied. The Diplomacy page shows each war with its loot share, the number of battles fought and the losses on both sides.
  • Alliance logs record the fighting. The alliance Logs page lists attacks by your members and on your members, with a link to the enemy planet and to the battle report.

Making peace

Either side can offer peace at any time during a war. The other side can make peace or refuse the offer, and the side that offered can withdraw it. The war ends only when both sides agree. Afterwards it moves to the history on the Diplomacy page with its final tally.

Pacts

There are two kinds of pact:

Pact Icon Effect
Non-aggression pact dove Members of the two alliances cannot attack each other.
Alliance pact handshake Counts as a non-aggression pact, and members may also station fleets at each other's planets and Dyson rings as if they were in the same alliance.

A pact is proposed by a leader or officer. The other side accepts or declines it, and the proposing side can withdraw it while it is pending. An accepted pact is in force at once.

Either side can cancel a pact. It then stays in force for 24 more hours of notice and shows as Ending during that time; attacks between the members stay blocked and stationed fleets may stay until it has ended. When the notice runs out, the pact ends and both alliances are told. Fleets that were stationed at the partner's planets under an alliance pact are sent home once they may no longer stay.

Seeing diplomacy

  • The Diplomacy page of your alliance lists your wars, your pacts, pending proposals and the history of past wars and pacts, each with the actions available to you.
  • The public page of every alliance shows its active wars and pacts under Wars and pacts, so everyone can see who is fighting whom and who is allied.
  • Icons are the same everywhere: flame for war, dove for a non-aggression pact, handshake for an alliance pact.

If an alliance is disbanded, its wars and pacts end and the other side is told.

Bot alliances

Alliances led by bots answer at once: they accept a peace offer and a non-aggression pact, and they decline an alliance pact. They never declare war or propose a pact themselves, and they never accept a war early, so a war on a bot alliance starts after the usual 24 hours.

Tips

  • Before declaring war, scout the enemy with spy probes and watch their fleets with Argus probes (see Intelligence and Surveillance).
  • Use the 24 hours before a war starts to bring fleets home and fill your defenses: the declaration warns both sides.
  • An alliance pact is a defensive tool. Station fleets at a partner's threatened planet or Dyson ring with the Station mission (see Fleet Operations).
  • Cancelling a pact takes 24 hours, so a sudden attack on a partner is never possible.
